In this article we explore the benefits of a glass roof structure, allowing you to enjoy your outdoor space all year around. By now you have hopefully explored all the offerings and settled on a glass roof. You are not alone, we are seeing an increase in popularity of glass roofs for a number of reasons, which we have listed below.
A glass roof blends with your garden
As a structure, a glass roof is a subtle addition to your outdoor space, more-so than an aluminium pergola. Similar to outdoor metal furniture, the design choices are yours to decide. Providing a solid shelter structure, some of our manufacturers offer different designs and colours to the supporting posts that hold up the glass roof, such as the Victorian design on the Milwood Simplicity Xtra.
A glass roof delivers shelter whilst still providing panoramic views of your outdoor space – there is no obstruction to looking out over your outdoor space. If you choose to sit outside or hold a gathering, a glass roof makes sure the weather doesn’t dampen the enjoyment of your leisure time, whilst still being able to look up and out.
Easy to access your home and your garden
A glass roof above your patio provides perfect shelter, whilst allowing you to step into your garden, or back into your house, without any obstructions – ideal! And there is no need to retract or take anything down at the end of the day, or if the wind picks up or turns.
Most importantly a glass roof provides shelter, allowing you to enjoy your outside space whatever the weather. You can choose LED lighting and infrared heaters to make the glass roof experience even more enjoyable.
If you are concerned about needing some shade under your glass roof on particularly hot days, we can provide under and over-awnings - such as the markilux 6000.
Freestanding or wall mounted options
We have installed freestanding glass structures to larger gardens where the views are spectacular- be that by the sea or out onto the rolling hills of Derbyshire. By having a glass room, you are able to enjoy a 360 degree view of your space. Wall mounted glass roofs are also common – fitted to external walls on your house and allowing you to sit, walk, dance or keep fit outside whilst being sheltered from the elements!
Still allows light into your indoor living space.
If you glass roof is attached to your dining room or perhaps your living room; unlike a pergola - a glass roof will still let a considerable amount of light and natural heat into your indoor living space. If you have concerns that the indoor space will get too hot we would recommend patio roof blinds attached to your glass roof that can be retracted and extended as needed.
Convert into a glass room
A glass roof can easily be converted into a glass room should you choose. This is an amazing extension to your house - whether you choose glass panels, glass sliding doors or a combination of both – this extra room can really allow you to experience the alfresco life whilst making sure the weather doesn’t impact on your enjoyment. Would your glass room be a dining area, a living room, an office or a combination of all 3? It’s really up to you.
Our glass roofs start from £8,000 depending on size and brand.
On all glass roofs we list example prices so you can budget properly. Please note all our prices include VAT and installation – there are no hidden costs with Cotswold’s.
